About the venue
Slezskoostravský hrad is the only surviving castle within the city of Ostrava, built in the second half of the 13th century at the confluence of the Ostravice and Lučina rivers. Originally a ducal fortress guarding a key trade route, it was converted into a Renaissance château in the 16th century. Coal mining caused the castle to sink by 16 metres and fall into disrepair; after extensive reconstruction it was reopened to the public in 2004. Today it houses permanent exhibitions on the history of the castle and region, and hosts cultural events, markets, and festivals.
