Cultural Bridges in Europe: Czech and Moravian Nobility after 1945

Slezskoostravský Castle hosts a travelling, bilingual exhibition from 6 March to 30 August 2026 titled "Cultural Bridges in Europe: Czech and Moravian Nobility after 1945". The exhibition first opened in Munich in spring 2022 and has expanded with additional figures during its four-year journey across Europe. The exhibition focuses on the life stories and activities of selected personalities from Czech and Moravian nobility after World War II, including those connected directly to the region of northern Moravia and Silesia. Visitors will learn about the fates of Ferdinand Wilczek, Marie Razumovska, Friedrich Stolberg, Johanna von Herzogenberg, Karel Schwarzenberg, Mikuláš Lobkowicz, and Daisy Waldstein-Wartenberg, among others. The exhibition presents not only individual biographies but also the broader context of Czech and Moravian nobility's influence, stemming from their relationship to property, cultural heritage, nation, and their Christian worldview. Culture, humanity, and Christian faith became the foundation of the "bridges" that these individuals began to build across political, national, and social boundaries after 1945. The exhibition was created by the Adalbert Stifter Society in Munich in collaboration with the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes and Post Bellum. The exhibition is accessible during regular castle opening hours (Tuesday–Sunday 10–17) as part of regular admission. A rich accompanying programme includes discussions, lectures (such as "Confiscation of Silesian Castles" and "Blue Blood of Czech Silesia"), a documentary screening of "My Father, the Prince" about Karel Schwarzenberg, and a visit to the podcast "Rewrite History".
