Mies in Pictures
An exhibition celebrating architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and his iconic Villa Tugendhat in Brno.
Villa Tugendhat is a functionalist villa in Brno's Černá Pole district, designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and built in 1929–1930 for Greta and Fritz Tugendhat. Since 2001 it has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as the only example of modern architecture in the Czech Republic to receive this distinction. The interior features an onyx wall, Italian travertine, and veneers of exotic woods; the technical basement showcases the house's innovative systems. Since 1994 the villa has been open to the public as a museum administered by the Brno City Museum.
