Robert Balzar is a Czech double bassist, bassist, composer and arranger widely regarded as one of the leading figures of the Czech jazz scene, placed by critics in the lineage of the celebrated Czech bass school alongside players like George Mraz and Miroslav Vitouš. He founded Robert Balzar Trio in 1996, releasing more than eight albums and performing at festivals across the USA, UK, Turkey, Sweden and Israel. He has a long-standing collaboration with singer Dan Bárta, is a member of the funk band J.A.R., and has recorded and toured internationally with John Abercrombie, Kurt Elling, Benny Golson and Arturo Sandoval.
Robert Balzar Trio launched the spring 2025 tour with concerts in Boskovice, Prague, Trutnov, Havířov, Bratislava and other cities.
The album Around the Bass was nominated for the Angel Prize 2024 in the jazz category.
Robert Balzar released a solo original album Around the Bass on the Easydoor Records label; the vocal part was performed by Slovak actress Jana Balzar Lieskovská.
Robert Balzar Trio premiered on December 8, 2023 at the Prague club U Staré Paní their eighth studio album Conversation, recorded in Polish Bielsko-Biała.
Musicserver.cz named the album Conversation one of the best jazz albums of 2023.
