Gustav Mahler (1860–1911) was an Austrian composer and conductor, one of the foremost figures of late Romanticism. He is best known for his nine completed symphonies and the song cycle Das Lied von der Erde. His ties to Prague include a period conducting at the New German Theatre in the 1880s.
