Franz Schubert (1797–1828) was an Austrian composer of the early Romantic period. He is best known for his prolific output of Lieder (art songs), chamber music, and symphonies. His works include the song cycles Winterreise and Die schöne Müllerin, as well as numerous string quartets and piano pieces.
