About the venue
A four-star spa hotel built between 1967 and 1976 to designs by the architect couple Věra and Vladimír Machonin - now one of the best-known Brutalist buildings in the Czech Republic. The 19-storey concrete structure holds 273 rooms and suites, a wellness centre, a spa, and a congress centre seating 2,000. Since its opening in 1977 it has served as the main venue of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, with stars such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Helen Mirren and Richard Gere on its red carpet. The complex connects directly to the Saunia Thermal Resort, whose outdoor pool is filled with natural Karlovy Vary spring water.
