Epopee: Aerial Symphony II

Alphonse Mucha's monumental cycle takes the form of an orchestral-visual production that weaves together symphonic music, acrobatics, movement, light and imagery into a single theatrical whole. Epopee is not an illustration of Mucha's paintings - rather, it is a free, contemporary interpretation: a translation of ideas, symbols and emotions into the living space of a concert hall.

The sonic foundation of the production is provided by the Janáček Philharmonic under the musical direction of chief conductor Daniel Raiskin. This is complemented by acrobatic imagery from the BO CIRK Company ensemble, whose approach is rooted in physical theatre and multidisciplinary work. The narrative unfolds from pagan rituals through spiritual transformations and conflicts toward a search for Slavic identity.

Videomapping and lighting design engage with Mucha's imagery and symbolism, creating a shifting visual world across epochs. The project is realised in collaboration with the Mucha Foundation and Moravský Krumlov Castle, where the Slavic Epopee is permanently displayed.
