A documentary-fiction drama celebrating bold big beat and above all Věra Špinarová, whose music defied the stereotypes of her era.

The conservatory rejected her for being too small. She didn't fit the choir – her voice was too distinctive. And the times were against her: it didn't matter how well you sang, only how politically aware you were. But talent always finds a way.

About the venue: Petr Bezruč Theatre

Divadlo Petra Bezruče is an Ostrava chamber theatre with roots going back to 1945, bearing its current name since 1955. Since the early 1990s it has been housed in the Blaník building on 28. října street, with two stages: a main hall and a small studio space called Márnice. Its dramaturgy focuses on modern interpretations of classics, new dramatic works, and regional topics, targeting primarily young audiences. In 2024 the theatre won the Theatre of the Year award from Czech theatre critics.

Věra Špinarová (1947–2017) was a Czech pop and big beat singer known for her powerful, expressive voice. Despite being rejected by the conservatory and facing pressure from the communist-era cultural establishment, she became one of the most distinctive voices in Czech popular music. Her songs remain iconic to this day.
