Daniel Raiskin grew up in St. Petersburg, where he trained at the city's conservatory before continuing his studies in Amsterdam and Freiburg. From the 2026/27 season he serves as Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava, a role he had been preparing for since his appointment was announced in May 2024. He is also Music Director of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and Permanent Guest Conductor of the Slovak Philharmonic in Bratislava, where he was Chief Conductor from 2020 to 2025. His discography - praised by Gramophone and Fanfare - includes Mahler's Third Symphony and Shostakovich's Fourth on the AVI label, and a recording with cellist Julian Steckel that won the Echo Klassik Award in 2012.
