Bauer Villa in Libodřice – Guided Tour
Bauerova vila, Libodřice
The villa, built in 1912–1914 according to the design of architect Josef Gočár (1880–1945), is a characteristic example of Cubist architecture. It was constructed by local landowner Adolf Bauer; the family lived there until 1931, and in 1940 the villa was confiscated as Jewish property. In the new millennium, the Foundation for Czech Cubism undertook its restoration and reconstruction; as of 2025, the villa is state-owned and managed by the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague.
The interior features an exhibition of Cubist furniture and applied arts – particularly works by Vlastislav Hofman, Pavel Janák, Josef Gočár, and Ladislav Machoň, as well as artifacts from the production of the Artěl cooperative.
