American group Punch Brothers, led by mandolinist Chris Thile, returns to the Czech Republic for an exclusive two-night stand in Brno. The band celebrates its twentieth anniversary and brings new material from its seventh studio album The Unsung Adventures of Punch Brothers, released on Nonesuch Records.
The lineup — Chris Thile (mandolin), Chris Eldridge (guitar), Noam Pikelny (banjo), Paul Kowert (double bass), and newly Brittany Haas (violin), who replaced longtime violinist Gabe Witcher in 2023 — draws equally from classical composition, jazz improvisation, and indie-rock energy. Brno audiences will see the band for the first time in its new lineup on a Czech stage.
The new album is the group's first purely instrumental work: it contains eight original compositions and three arrangements of traditional songs. From their previous discography, albums Antifogmatic (2010) and All Ashore (2018) stand out, for which Punch Brothers won Grammy Awards for Best Folk Album. Chris Thile last performed in the Czech Republic in 2022 at a solo recital in Brno's Besední dům.
