Vladimír Holan (1905–1980) was a Czech poet known as the "black angel of poetry". He is considered one of the most significant figures of Czech modernist poetry in the 20th century, noted for his existential depth, hermetic style, and complex language. He spent much of his later life in voluntary seclusion at a villa on Kampa island in Prague.
