Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy (1809–1847) was a German composer, pianist and conductor of the early Romantic era. He is celebrated for works such as the Violin Concerto in E minor, the oratorios Elijah and St. Paul, and Symphony No. 2 "Lobgesang". He also played a pivotal role in reviving interest in the music of J. S. Bach.
