15th SEASON BACH ON MOZART! PROGRAMME G. F. Handel, J. D. Zelenka, J. J. Fux - selection of coronation and festive works CONDUCTOR Andreas Scholl FEATURING SILENTIUM! ensemble A landmark event of the season commemorating 400 years since the Habsburgs ascended the Czech throne. Monumental works of European Baroque will be performed in authentic interpretation under the direction of a world-renowned vocal and conducting legend.

About the venue: Katedrála Petrov

The Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, known locally as Petrov, is the seat of the Diocese of Brno and a national cultural monument. It rises on the hill of the same name above the city centre - its neo-Gothic silhouette with two 84-metre towers, completed by architect August Kirstein between 1904 and 1909, even appears on the Czech ten-crown coin. The interior is largely Baroque, with works by sculptor Ondřej Schweigl. By tradition, the bells ring at 11 a.m. rather than noon - a nod to a legend from the Thirty Years' War, when Brno's defenders tricked the Swedish besiegers by ringing the hour early.

A graduate of the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel, Andreas Scholl has spent three decades at the top of the countertenor world, building a discography of more than sixty recordings. He made history as the first countertenor to perform at the Last Night of the Proms.

About: SILENTIUM!

Born in 2025 from Tereza Válková's years of experience in historically informed performance, the ensemble quickly earned a place at leading Czech festivals. Its programmes range from Renaissance madrigals and Baroque cantatas to modern-day premieres of long-forgotten Moravian composers.
