About

Andreas Scholl (born 10 November 1967 in Eltville am Rhein) is a German countertenor widely regarded as one of the leading exponents of the voice type in the world. He grew up in a family of singers in Kiedrich, trained at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel, and launched his international career in 1993 when he stepped in for an ailing René Jacobs in Paris. Over three decades he has recorded more than sixty albums - chiefly for Harmonia Mundi and Decca - and was the first countertenor ever to appear at the Last Night of the Proms. Since October 2019 he has held a professorship at the Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg.
