Schools – Echoes of Antiquity

Tue, 26 May 2026 · 11:30 — Tue, 30 Jun 10:30

Schwarzenberský palác, Prague

The school programme "Echoes of Antiquity" guides students through the world of Greek and Roman mythology captured in Renaissance and Baroque art. Figures such as Zeus, Perseus, Aphrodite and Orpheus appear in the paintings, sculptures and ceiling frescoes of Schwarzenberg Palace – and the programme explores why the ancient world remained so vibrant even in the era of Christian art.

The programme includes a guided tour of the palace and an art workshop where students apply their newly acquired knowledge through their own creative work.

Programme objectives:
- Introduce students to ancient figures across different stylistic periods and artistic styles.
- Highlight the significance of classical mythology in European and historical context.
- Apply the acquired knowledge creatively and imaginatively in the art workshop.

Artists featured in the programme: Matyas Bernard Braun, Vaclav Vavrinec Reiner, Michael Leopold Willmann and others.
