Precedens is a Prague rock band founded in 1982 by Martin Němec and Jan Sahara Hedl at the Prague School of Applied Arts. The group rose to prominence in the late 1980s with singer Bára Basiková; their debut album Doba ledová (1987) is considered a landmark of Czech new wave. Němec has led the band ever since as its sole composer and lyricist, with Daniela Langrová on vocals since 2020. In 2025 the band released the album Odstíny černé and was inducted into the Radio Beat Hall of Fame by listener vote.
On February 27, 2026, ČT art broadcast an episode of the program Icons by Kamila Střihavka dedicated to conductor Martin Němec and the band Precedens.
The band christened the album Shades of Black on May 22, 2025, at the Malostranská beseda in Prague; the godfather of the album was singer Kamil Střihavka.
In 2025, Precedens was inducted by listeners into the Beat Hall of Fame on Beat Radio in the band category.
Along with the album Shades of Black, two new music videos were created, which premiered at the album's christening.
