About

Pepa Mařáková (1872-1907) was a Czech painter active around the turn of the 20th century, daughter of the landscape artist Julius Mařák. Because women were barred from the Prague Academy of Fine Arts, she trained informally in her father's studio and later under Václav Brožík. Her main focus was figurative portrait painting in a Symbolist vein, though she also painted landscapes. Her works are held by the National Gallery in Prague and the Municipal Gallery in Litomyšl.
