Emil Lauffer (1837-1909) was a German-Bohemian painter and representative of Romantic historical painting. He trained under Christian Ruben at the Vienna Academy and settled in Prague in 1865, contributing to the decoration of the Queen Anne's Summer Palace and St. Vitus Cathedral. He taught at the German Polytechnic Institute and was the first teacher of Václav Brožík.
