Beauties of the Night Sky
Opening of a landscape astrophotography exhibition by Andrei Fojtíková and Miroslava Nečasová, featuring a guided tour, lecture, and discussion on the joys and challenges of astrophotography.
The observatory and planetarium prof. František Nušl is named after a prominent Czech astronomer born in Jindřichův Hradec. An astronomy club was founded here in 1953, and the observatory itself opened in 1961 on the Šibeník hill. A major reconstruction launched in 2018 added a digital laser planetarium and a new dome. Visitors can watch star-sky projections and astronomy films, or observe the Sun and night sky through telescopes. A notable curiosity is the site's position exactly on the 15th meridian, which defines Central European local time.
