Valašský špalíček is a four-day folk-blues-beat festival held every June in the grounds of Žerotín Castle in Valašské Meziříčí. Its roots go back to the mid-1970s, with an unbroken run of annual editions since 1983. Across several stages, Czech and international acts cover folk, blues, beat and alternative music, while exhibitions and film screenings round out the programme. The festival made history by bringing The Frames with Glen Hansard to the Czech Republic for the first time - where Hansard met Markéta Irglová from Valašské Meziříčí, a collaboration that later earned them both an Oscar.
