J.P. Rameau: Galant Worlds / Les Indes galantes – Revival

Jean-Philippe Rameau premiered the opera Les Indes galantes on 23 August 1735 at the Palais-Royal theatre in Paris. The libretto was written by Louis Fuzelier. The work has no single hero or plot – it is a Baroque kaleidoscope of four scenes set in the exotic lands of the imagination of the time: Turkey, Persia, Peru, and North America. All are united by the theme of love transcending cultural boundaries.

The opera-ballet includes arias, dances, choral scenes, and orchestral numbers. The performance will be given in an authentic interpretation on period instruments.
