Adam Plachetka (born 4 May 1985 in Prague) is a Czech bass-baritone who graduated from the Prague Conservatory and HAMU. He joined the Vienna State Opera ensemble in 2010 and has been a regular presence at the Metropolitan Opera in New York since his debut there in 2015. Long regarded as one of the finest Mozart singers of his generation, he has recently expanded into Wagner, debuting as Wotan in 2026.
Plachetka made his debut in the role of Wotan in Wagner's Das Rheingold in a new production at the National Theatre in Prague - critics praised his performance as a convincing breakthrough in the Wagnerian repertoire.
Plachetka achieved success with his debut in the role of Escamillo in Bizet's Carmen at the Metropolitan Opera; the OperaWire website called him a Met legend.
From September 24, Plachetka performed the role of Leporello in Mozart's Don Giovanni at the Metropolitan Opera, a series of performances that received enthusiastic reviews.
Plachetka performed at the opening concert of London Handel Festival 2025 with the ensemble Arcangelo in Handel's oratorio L'Allegro, Il Penseroso ed il Moderato.
