Life Dances To Eternity

Two bodies in dialogue with history, space, and the theme of death create a poetic movement meditation on life, its transience, and what remains after us.

The performance by Estonian artists Marie Solei Järvet and Juulius Vaiksoo was created in 2025 in Tallinn as the first part of a dance series initiated by Estonian choreographer Teet Kask for Niguliste Museum. The inspiration came from the famous medieval painting Dance of Death (Danse Macabre) by Lübeck master Bernt Notke - the most renowned Estonian artwork of its kind. The artistic duo transforms its motif into contemporary movement and opens up themes of time, transience, and the cyclical nature of life.

In Life Dances To Eternity, death is not a synonym for ending, but a natural part of life. The performance stems from the idea that in the face of death we are all equal - and it is precisely the awareness of our own finitude that can sharpen attention to what is happening right now. Dance is thus not an illustration of a historical painting, but its contemporary counterpart: it weaves movement, sound, and visual world into a meditation on life and its transformation.
