CZECH UNDERWORLD WITH JOSEF KLÍMA
Josef Klíma has been one of the most prominent figures in Czech investigative journalism for several decades. He is a co-founder of the weeklies Respekt and Reflex, author of hundreds of television reports and screenplays, and recipient of multiple TýTý awards and the Ferdinand Peroutka journalism prize. He became famous primarily for his investigative programmes such as Na vlastní oči and his own journalistic work. Throughout his career, he has focused on the Czech underworld, organized crime and corruption cases, and has personally met numerous notorious mobsters and controversial figures from the 1990s.
On Wednesday, 30 September at 18:00, he will visit the Small Hall of Záložna in Litovel for a talk titled CZECH UNDERWORLD or How I Survived the Nineties. During the evening, Josef Klíma will recall the wild 1990s, his encounters with the mobsters of that era from Ivan Jonák to Radovan Krejčíř, and the dangers of being an investigative journalist at that time. He will also discuss how Czech organized crime has transformed over the past decade.
The talk will include time for audience questions, which may cover topics such as the popular series Sedm schodů k moci (Seven Steps to Power), whose screenplay was loosely inspired by the Nagyová-Nečas case. Admission at the door: 250 CZK.
