Knihlava Literary Festival 2026
A two-day literary festival bringing contemporary authors and literary events to Jihlava.
Petr Borkovec (born 17 April 1970 in Louňovice pod Blaníkem) is a Czech poet, prose writer, translator and journalist. Since 1990 he has published over thirty books - poetry collections, short prose and children's texts - with editions appearing in Germany, Austria, England, Romania and Italy. As a translator he focuses on 20th-century Russian poetry (Khodasevich, Nabokov, Brodsky, Odarchenko) and has co-translated ancient Greek drama for the National Theatre in Prague. His awards include the Jiří Orten Prize, Germany's Hubert Burda Prize, the South Tyrolean Norbert C. Kaser Prize, and the 2026 Czech Literary Critics' Prize for prose.
Petr Borkovec received the Literary Criticism Award for 2025 for his prose collection Some Cécile and Others (Fra, 2025); the award was announced on March 25, 2026 at the Prague Center for Contemporary Art DOX.
Borkovec's collection of short prose Some Cécile and Others (Fra) was published, which attracted critics with its movement at the boundary between poetry and prose and the expansion of the author's genre spectrum.
In 2024, Borkovec published two new books: a collection of Poems and the entomological prose Fragile Book.
In October 2024, Borkovec was nominated for the Dresden Prize for Poetry and in an interview for iLiteratury.cz discussed his relationship with nature, international literary cooperation, and his own work.
In February 2023, the National Theatre premiered Borkovec and Havrd's translation of Euripides' Bacchae.
