About

Markéta Foukalová (born 1981) is a Czech singer, songwriter, and vocal educator who has been performing since the age of thirteen. She fronts the Prague alt-pop band Lanugo, teaches at the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory and New York University, and in 2025 released her solo debut Jinak. Together with pianist Martin Brunner she recorded Zábrana (2026), the first substantial musical setting of poems by Czech poet and translator Jan Zábrana (1931-1984); she received Czech Music Academy Angel Award nominations in 2022 and 2025.

    The album Zábrana (Foukalová & Brunner) was released on May 15, 2026 on CD, LP and digitally by the Animal Music label, and on the same day it was premiered at Prague's Jazz Dock.

    The Zábrana project launched a Czech tour - stops are planned in Pardubice, Slavonice, Opava, Prerov, Letovice and Prague.

    In June 2025, Foukalová released her solo debut album Jinak (8 songs, produced by Radimo), on which she presented herself for the first time as a composer and lyricist.

    The Zábrana project had its world premiere in New York in May 2025 as part of the Rehearsal for Truth festival, dedicated to the legacy of Václav Havel, and was later also presented in Vancouver.
