John Coltrane was an American jazz saxophonist and composer, one of the most influential figures in 20th-century jazz. He played tenor and soprano saxophone and developed a dense improvisational approach known as "sheets of sound". His 1964 album A Love Supreme is widely regarded as one of the greatest jazz recordings ever made.
