A concert marking the 100th anniversary of John Coltrane's birth takes place on 23 September 2026, Wednesday, at Jazz Dock in Prague on Janáčkovo nábřeží. Three leading Czech saxophonists - Marcel Bárta, František Kop and Ondřej Štveráček - will honour the musical legacy of the legendary saxophonist. Jazz Dock is a design-focused club on the Vltava riverbank in Smichov, opened in 2009, hosting regular concerts of jazz, funk, soul and blues. Coltrane's influence on modern jazz remains profound, and his techniques continue to inspire musicians worldwide. This is one of two Czech dates dedicated to his legacy.

About the venue: Jazz Dock

Jazz Dock is a design jazz club opened in 2009 on the banks of the Vltava river in Prague's Smíchov district, opposite Children's Island. It regularly hosts concerts of jazz, funk, soul, blues and world music, as well as its own festivals. The interior was designed by architects Ivan Sládek and Jaroslav Ourecký; a rooftop terrace is open in summer. The venue also includes a bar and restaurant.

About: Marcel Bárta

Born in Mariánské Lázně and trained as a clarinettist in Pilsen, Bárta taught himself jazz and went on to shape three of the Czech scene's most distinctive projects - Vertigo, MUFF and DoMa Ensemble. His music bridges jazz, contemporary classical writing and free improvisation, while his visual work spans light collages and found-object sculptures.

About: František Kop

František Kop is a Czech jazz saxophonist based in Prague. He leads the František Kop Quartet alongside pianist Petr Malásek, bassist Martin Lehký, and drummer Pavel Zbořil. The group brings together experienced players from the Prague jazz scene and focuses on modern jazz.

About: Ondřej Štveráček

Prague-based tenor saxophonist Ondřej Štveráček has spent two decades shaping a post-bop voice that starts with Coltrane and ends somewhere distinctly his own. A member of the Gustav Brom Radio Big Band and a jazz educator at the International Conservatory in Prague, he has earned consistent praise from Czech jazz critics across multiple albums.
