Jan Kučera

About

Jan Kučera (born 11 October 1977 in Klatovy) is a Czech conductor, composer and pianist regarded as one of the most versatile musicians of his generation. He trained in composition and conducting at the Prague Conservatory and the Academy of Performing Arts (HAMU), and served as chief conductor of the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra from 2015 to 2021. As a conductor he has led over a hundred premieres of works by contemporary composers, while his own operas, ballets and symphonic pieces have been performed by the Czech Philharmonic and the National Theatre in Prague, among others.

    In October 2026, the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra will present the first public performance of Kučera's Violin Concerto at the Rudolfinum; the soloist will be violinist David Pokorný.
