About

Death was an American death metal band from Altamonte Springs, Florida, founded in 1983 by guitarist and vocalist Chuck Schuldiner under the name Mantas. Across seven studio albums the band charted the evolution of the genre from raw brutality to progressive technicality, earning Schuldiner the title 'Father of Death Metal'. He died of a brain tumor in December 2001, disbanding the group; former members have since kept the catalog alive through the Death To All (DTA) tribute touring project.
