About

Celula New York is a New York-based jazz band led by Slovak-American trumpeter, composer and bandleader Laco Déczi (b. 1938, Bernolákovo, Slovakia). Déczi came up on the Prague jazz scene in the 1960s - notably as a member of Karel Velebný's S+HQ - before emigrating to the United States in 1985 and building Celula New York there. The band plays modern jazz rooted in the hard bop of Clifford Brown and the electric fusion of Miles Davis, and has toured the Czech Republic and Slovakia twice a year since 1990.
