About the venue

Divadlo Karla Pippicha is a constructivist theatre built between 1931 and 1934 to designs by architects Jindřich Freiwald and Jaroslav Böhm, and opened on 18 February 1934. It is named after Karel Pippich (1849-1921), a Chrudim lawyer, poet and musician. The venue is run by Chrudimská beseda and has no permanent company of its own - visiting ensembles from the region perform here. Events include the annual Loutkářská Chrudim puppet theatre festival, concerts and exhibitions in the in-house gallery. The building has been a listed cultural monument since 1958.
