LiStOVáNí.cz: Love and Body

In one of his final works, Arnošt Lustig returned to themes that run throughout his entire body of writing - the incomprehensibility of Nazi ideology and the extermination of Jews, alongside a love of life and physicality. The main characters, Gabriela Lágusová and Josef Reinisch, experience a forbidden love in the Theresienstadt ghetto. Transport could arrive any day; they find solace only in each other - they live fully and speak things they might never have said under other circumstances. The result is a story full of declarations of love and essayistic parables about the meaning of life.
