Operation Anthropoid at the Skuteč Regional Museum

Regionální muzeum Skuteč, Skuteč

The travelling exhibition "Operation Anthropoid" is on display at the Skuteč Regional Museum from 21 April to 31 May 2026. It tells the story of one of the most significant acts of Czechoslovak resistance — the assassination of Nazi Reichsprotektor Reinhard Heydrich, carried out by two paratroopers, Captain Josef Gabčík and Jan Kubiš, on 27 May 1942 in Prague. The exhibition presents the preparation and execution of the operation, documents the Nazi hunt for the assassins, and commemorates the heroic deaths of all seven paratroopers in the Orthodox Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius. It also explores the fates of the paratroopers' collaborators and hundreds of other people who were executed or perished in Mauthausen concentration camp for aiding the resistance. The exhibition recalls the destruction of Lidice and the massacre of the village of Ležáky as direct consequences of the assassination. The museum is open daily, including weekends, from 9:00 to 17:00 (with a lunch break from 12:00 to 13:00). The building is partially wheelchair accessible.
