Black Dress - Beautiful Confusion Collective

An exuberant solo performance by Becky McFadden explores non-binary femme identity through storytelling, dance, and twelve black dresses from her own wardrobe. With humour, queer joy, and vulnerability, she guides audiences from a sunny terrace in Calabria through the complexities of gender-neutral pronouns in Czech to a utopian queer ski lodge - which doesn't actually (yet) exist.

This sixty-minute dance lecture weaves together movement, narrative, queer theory, popular music, and video projection. One black dress after another shapes and transforms the artist's body, creating points of convergence and divergence, and challenges fundamental assumptions about how to embody and read gender. Getting dressed is never a simple act.

Becky McFadden is an independent artist, dancer, performer, and founder and artistic director of the Beautiful Confusion collective. She collaborates with Depresivní děti touží po penězích, Martin Talagoa, the PINKBUS platform, and is a member of the London theatre company LegalAliens.
