"Everyone emerges from the underworld in their own way, I - through writing," Franz Kafka wrote in a letter to Greta Bloch.

The actor emerges from the underworld through words, gestures, glances - but also through silence, stillness, and restraint of expression. Sometimes by abandoning what we call acting and disappearing from the stage. Kafka was paradoxically a great celebrant of life and a persistent seeker of the happy star - as he himself wrote to Felicia Bauer. He gave this star different names: the Law ("The Trial"), a message from the emperor ("The Great Wall of China"), the search for a way out ("A Report to an Academy"), the search for bones ("Investigations of a Dog"), starvation ("A Hunger Artist") or the world of the dead ("I Visited the Dead").

In his monodrama, Janusz Stolarski draws from the texts "A Report to an Academy," "The Metamorphosis," and "A Hunger Artist." First he follows the writer's voice and repeats his words - then he falls silent and lets only his body speak, touched by the presence of Kafka's characters, and the space in which he moves and to which he ultimately submits.
