Return to Reims (via Olomouc)
Class conflict + queer identity = plenty of witty banter :) What is it like growing up in a working-class family, not fitting in, and returning to a place you left for good? And what does this personal experience have to do with how we think about society, polarization, or politics today?
The production loosely adapts Didier Eribon's book and offers a layered reflection on class identity, sexuality, and the personal journey toward freedom - with humor, perspective, and self-irony. Director Adam Svozil, twice winner of the Mark Ravenhill Prize, transforms a theoretical essay into a staged conversation: he interviews the author through Karli, a cheerful "worker in culture" who asks without filters or restraint. Reflections on queer identity, distrust of elites, the rise of right-wing extremism, and the role of working and middle classes interweave with personal memories of growing up in Reims - and also in Olomouc, where the director himself comes from.
This is the third collaboration between Divadlo nacucky! and Adam Svozil - following the happening Podvečer v listopadu (2019) and the production Úvod do současné trapnosti - and also the first queer production in the repertoire. Starring Jan Lepšík and Jiří Svoboda, set design by Pavla Kamanová. Premiered 6 December 2024, running time 100 minutes without intermission.
Warning: the production uses strobe lighting and smoke effects. Copyright holder represented by DILIA, theatre, literary, audiovisual agency, Krátký 143/1, Prague 9.
