Dragonfly as an Advanced Scout
Dan Bárta, a renowned Czech musician and odonatologist (dragonfly expert), will deliver a lecture titled "Dragonfly as an Advanced Scout" together with entomologist and dragonfly conservationist Aleš Dolný as part of the Pluto – Science in the South programme. The event takes place on 18 June at 18:00 in the Komorní klub in Hrabůvka.
The lecture will focus on dragonflies (Odonata) as sensitive bioindicators of landscape health – particularly the stability and purity of aquatic ecosystems. Because dragonfly larvae live in water for several years, these organisms are highly sensitive to pollution, eutrophication, or changes in riparian vegetation. Both speakers will also explore the unique characteristics of dragonflies, which first appeared on Earth 300 million years ago.
