Aleš Dolný is an entomologist and odonatologist at the Department of Biology and Ecology, Faculty of Science, University of Ostrava. His research centres on dragonflies (Odonata) as indicators of aquatic ecosystem health and their conservation. Together with Dan Bárta, he co-authored the monograph Vážky České republiky (Dragonflies of the Czech Republic), which earned him a Czech Minister of the Environment Award.
