The exhibition presents romantic landscapes by prominent 19th-century artists inspired by the work of Czech poet Karel Hynek Mácha. On display are works by Julius Mařák, Antonín and Josef Mánes, Bedřich August Piepenhagen, and others. Romantic forest hideaways, castle ruins, and pilgrims in the landscape captivate with their mysterious atmosphere.

About the venue: Lázně Liberec Gallery

Galerie Lázně Liberec is an art museum founded in 1953, housed since 2014 in the former municipal spa building dating from 1901–1902 on Masarykova Street. Its collections comprise over 22,000 works of art from Bohemia, Germany, France, the Netherlands and other European countries. The gallery offers permanent exhibitions of Czech and European art, temporary shows and an interactive exposition. The conversion of the spa building received the Grand Prix of Architects – National Architecture Prize in 2014.

About: Karel Hynek Mácha

Karel Hynek Mácha (1810–1836) was the foremost Czech Romantic poet. His masterpiece, the lyric-epic poem Máj (May, 1836), is a cornerstone of Czech literature, blending vivid nature imagery with themes of love and existential despair. Mácha died at the age of 26, shortly after the poem's publication.
