The Weir
Prague Shakespeare Company presents the Czech debut of Conor McPherson's The Weir, winner of the Laurence Olivier Award. The production is performed in English with Czech subtitles, translated by Jan Hančil. Divadlo Na Prádle, 29-31 October.
On a stormy night, four local men gather in a remote Irish pub. Their usual conversation is interrupted by the arrival of a woman named Valerie - Finbar, Jack and Jim try to impress her with ghost stories woven through Irish folk tradition. But Valerie has her own story, far more personal, and its telling will surprise them all.
The play weaves supernatural tales with personal tragedy, exploring the power of storytelling to connect people in unexpected ways. McPherson earned a reputation as "one of the finest writers of his generation" (New York Times) with this work - The Weir brought him the Evening Standard Award, Critics' Circle Award and Olivier Award for Best New Play at its Royal Court premiere.
