Art Up Close: Major Patrons of the Society of Patriotic Friends of Art and Their Gifts

A guided tour of the permanent exhibition "Old Masters II" at Sternberg Palace with Alexandra Brabcová will present major patrons and supporters of the Society of Patriotic Friends of Art, the predecessor of the National Gallery Prague. Participants will explore the Picture Gallery of the SVPU and see works by Dutch and other masters that would not be here without generous donors. The tour will discuss Josef Hoser, Jan Nepomuk Kaňka, the Prince of Liechtenstein, and Bedřich Silva-Tarouca.

The tour is part of the "Art Up Close" series and takes place on the occasion of the 230th anniversary of the National Gallery's founding. It focuses on a specific part of the collections and places it in broader context for better understanding of the whole.
