Romani Tales from the Days When Roma Were Still Called Gypsies
These stories rest on raw authenticity, storytelling, and a sharp, distinctly poetic language - above all, on humor. Incredible tales from a colorful world full of emotion and fantasy are read by Irena Hýsková.
This is an evening of Romani narratives as recorded and translated from Romani by Milena Hübschmanová. Her knowledge of the language allowed her to gain the trust of storytellers who could record their stories in their native tongue. The main strength of these recordings is their authenticity - there are no attempts at refinement, literary polish, moralization, or replacement of words and situations.
It is worth remembering that most of these stories were not originally intended for children. They were tales told wherever people gathered for shared work or conversation.
