HYB4 Reading Room: This Story Has No Mother Tongue - Launch of Zofia Bałdyga's Poetry Collection

Incipit Publishing invites you to the Prague launch of Zofia Bałdyga's poetry collection "This Story Has No Mother Tongue." The discussion with the author will be led by book editor Jitka Bret Srbová.

Following her volunteer work at Prague's main railway station in summer 2022, Zofia Bałdyga's new poems delve into stuffy waiting rooms, hospitals, offices, shelters, train compartments, and unfamiliar station halls. In unsettling verses, she captures the indifference of questionnaires and the turning away of individual eyes from concrete injustice - asking how profound is the loneliness of people lost in a system that neither speaks their language nor cares to. Bałdyga poetically examines the theme of identity trapped within institutions and does not shy away from uncomfortable truths: migration is a problem not only in itself, but in how we speak about it - and thus how we think about it.

Literary evenings curated by the editorial board of Prostor magazine in the HYB4 Reading Room are organized with financial support from the City of Prague, the Ministry of Culture, and the Czech State Fund for Culture.
