An Enemy of the People

Uncompromising direction by Michal Hába dismantles the apparent topicality of Henrik Ibsen's drama. The story of a spa doctor fighting against the "compact majority" has been read for over a hundred years as a mirror of society — but the theatre group Lachende Bestien finds such an interpretation insufficient.

In a wild eco-terrorist ride, the production examines the limits of contemporary liberal democracy, the fascistic tendencies it contains, and enriches Ibsen's spa world with commentary on a self-destructive capitalist society.

The project is created in co-production with Prague City Theatres for the Komedie theatre space.
