Bodzewicz, Malý: Faust Between Image and Text
DOX Centrum současného umění, Prague
In her current exhibition FAUST, painter Radka Bodzewicz will lead a discussion with poet Radek Malý, author of a modern Czech translation of Goethe's Faust. The programme includes admission to the exhibition. The event lasts 60 minutes.
Radka Bodzewicz graduated from the Prague Academy of Fine Arts (Graphics II studio / school of Vladimír Kokolia and Sculpture II / school of Jindřich Zeithammla, 2017). During her studies, she completed an internship at Robert Gordon University - Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen (2016) and in 2018 was a finalist for the Leinemann-Stiftung für Bildung und Kunst Award. Her work stems from an interest in literary and philosophical texts, which she develops into monumental painting cycles; she extends classical artistic methods with new technologies - virtual reality, holographic imagery, and 3D printing. She has exhibited independently throughout the Czech Republic and abroad.
Radek Malý is a writer, translator, and literary historian. He has published several collections of poetry (Legends and Litanies, 2023; Poems on Punch Cards, 2022; Atlas of Beings, 2020; Small Darkness, 2008, among others), numerous children's books, radio plays, and scholarly publications. He has translated into Czech the verse of Georg Trakl, Rainer Maria Rilke, and Paul Celan, as well as Thomas Mann's novella Death in Venice. His translation of Goethe's Faust was created in 2018 for a production at the National Theatre's drama company. He teaches at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University in Prague. For his work, he received the Jiří Orten Prize for the collection Raven Songs (2002) and twice won the Magnesia Litera award - for poetry (Windy.
