Architecture Day: Fryšava pod Žákovou horou - Medlov Functionalist

A guided tour of the historic Medlov hotel building with owners Jan, Martin and Klára Piskořovi. The programme focuses on the original design and key elements of emotional functionalism - visiting the Common Room, south facade, galleries and interior with original fireplace and wine bar.

The functionalist building was constructed in 1933 by entrepreneur Leoš Stehlík according to designs by architect Alois Wachsman. Originally it served as a hotel with a girls' camp. After nationalization, the building underwent extensive modernist renovation between 1968-1973 according to architect Jiří Herzán's plans, which gave it its current appearance with a distinctive "V"-shaped roof on columns, metal railings and typical birch-plywood plaster.

The all-day programme offers a series of thematic tours - from architecture through artworks and original furniture to the building's technical facilities. Also included are scenic routes and a tour of an exhibition of Antonín Šuman's iconic chairs in the hotel spaces.
