Architecture Day: Fryšava pod Žákovou horou - Medlov Brussels Style

Hotel Medlov features two distinct architectural layers. The functionalist building was constructed in 1933 by entrepreneur Leoš Stehlík according to architect Alois Wachsman's design - originally serving as a hotel with a girls' camp. Between 1968-1973, the building underwent extensive modernist renovation designed by Jiří Herzán, giving it its current appearance with a distinctive "V"-shaped roof on columns, metal railings, and birch-plywood plaster.

Tours of the exteriors and ground-floor interiors will focus on late Brussels style and post-war modernism. You will progressively explore the glazed facade, south elevation, library, reception with hand-painted map, winter garden with cupola and wrought-iron grille, dining room, and hall with stage. The all-day programme also includes thematic routes with views and a tour of Antonín Šuman's exhibition featuring his iconic chairs displayed throughout the hotel.
